Itinerary
For this tour, you will go to the hotel and to the rivers by your own means. We can organise car rental and/or flights. The nearest airport : Munich (a one and a half hour drive) Longer or shorter stays can be arranged : please contact us.

Geography
Austria covers a surface area of 83855 km 2 and is divided into 9 federal provinces, or Länder. It’s a country of varied landscapes and natural beauty: lush pasturelands, ice-capped peaks and crystal-clear lakes surround the vineyards, farms, towns, and typical Tyrol villages.

The Rivers
Piam has been a visitor to this north-eastern part of Austria for many years and Willy, the owner of the hotel you will be staying in and a keen fly-fisherman, has become a friend. He has had the excellent idea of reserving some of the best stretches of the local rivers for his guests. You will, therefore, discover over 40km of 5 rivers, reserved for fly-fishing. They vary in width from 10 to 15m and the pools are from 1.5 to 2 metres deep. The level of these rivers does not vary a lot and you will be able to fish trout and grayling with wet flies, dry flies or nymphs.

Accommodation and other activities
You will stay in a double room in a very comfortable hotel which is also a casino. The hotel was founded in 1927 by Maria Forstinger and is a typical Austrian ‘Wirtshaus’ with the comfort and services of a 4-star hotel.
This old, white and brown building with its arched entrance contains an elegant interior, designed by the owners who have renovated it to offer high-quality, luxurious services. Each elegant, spacious room has a specific design and contains some of the wonderful antiques belonging to the family.

Schärding is a pretty village which seems to have stepped right out of an opera setting. The main square has a fountain and is surrounded by narrow, colourful buildings . The variety of the rooflines creates a cosy, yet elegant atmosphere. Every exceptional town needs a hotel to live up to its reputation and Schärding is fortunate enough to have this one, located close to the main square. The owners, Willy and Margret, are committed to making sure that their guests have a great stay.

The rooms are pleasant and decorated in a typically Austrian style. A private car park is available. The hotel offers rooms and breakfast but we can organise half-board (breakfast and dinner) with the restaurant just opposite.

A large range of activities are possible near the hotel which makes it the ideal place for couples, families and holidays. There is an 18-hole golf course just 10km away and you can also go hiking, cycling or visit the casino.

Climate : Austria has a temperate and continental climate. Summers are hot with cool nights. Winters are cold and sunny with frequent rainfall and snow in the mountains.
